I have a thought experiment for those who are thinking of putting a significant amount of their net worth into purchasing a property in Mexico. The thought experiment is this:

You buy the property. You've gone through all of the hoops and it's now yours (or yours through a trust).

One afternoon a man knocks on the door. He tells you that you will now be paying $300/month for insurance to avoid bad things happening to your hours or you. He will be back in a few days to collect the first payment.

Other than paying the man, what is your recourse in Mexico?
