I have been thinking about the criticism of the Russians who do nothing about Putin. They feel powerless and they believe that there is nothing they can do to rid Russia of Putin.
I am sorry to say that I feel this way about Trump and Musk. I loath them with all my heart. I was a fervent supporter of Harris. But that failed. Unless and until a significant majority of people in the US turn against Trump he will continue wrecking.
Trump is a symptom of a populous that is willfully ignorant. In their dim recollection of Trump's first term they thought that times were better and eggs were cheaper. They somehow forgot about covid and an economy that was almost brought to its knees by the pandemic. They paid no attention to what Trump repeatedly said or who he is.
Trump is enabled by decades of packing the judicial system and finally the Supreme Court with federalist society zealots. This brought us the citizens united ruling for unlimited political donations.
In my view this is a pretty bleak landscape and it is an open question whether the US republic will survive. One thing is beyond question: the United States will never be the same, even if it survives Trump.
