Kanji is a character set for poets, artists and scholars. But for the modern world, it is not a good fit.

Kanji is problematic for computing. There is no simple alphabetic (lexical) ordering. Entering Kanji characters on a computer or computing device is more complicated than entering alphabetic characters.

While in Tokyo I watched Taxi driver enter addresses. They had to scroll through characters to find the start of the address and then do additional scrolling to complete the address.

Modern phones and laptops are common in Japan, but this is, really, in spite of Kanji.
