The sad truth is that most people, now and in the past, ignore the world around them unless it directly affects them on a day to day level.
I have no doubt that most people in the United States did not care much about the war in Europe in 1942. It was only when the Japanese Empire attacked Pearl Harbor that they started to pay attention.
The attack on Ukraine is one of the seminal events of our lifetime. There is now war in Europe and an attack on a first world, European country, complete with Nazi style atrocities.
I never imagined that we would live in the world we find ourselves in. A world where, once again, we would have to worry about the armageddon of nuclear war. The world will never be the same.
If people are not paying attention to the attack on Ukraine, I'm not sure that there is a way to get them to pay attention unless it is their houses being bombed.
